After weeks of digging, I decided to take a peek into what used to be a crawlspace basement with only a few feet of clearance from the floors of Black Thorn. For over a 100 years that dusty space was filled with sprawling lumpy mounds of loose dirt where one could easily find slithering earthworms, creeping spiders, dented bottle caps, rusty nails, old pennies, and other old relics of a long forgotten past.
What I discovered upon my descent into the dark, gaping maw under the house was a huge, freshly dug cave with looming walls of dirt and clay, tree roots sticking out wildly, dispossessed of their earthly foundation. That first glimpse of transformed space, was so thrilling. There was so much room, so much potential. Now, I finally got a true sense of how spacious our basement dungeon would be and it was awesome.
